PENINGKATAN KESIAPSIAGAAN SISWA DALAM MENGHADAPI BENCANA MELALUI EDUKASI KEPERAWATAN BENCANA DI SEKOLAH MENENGAH ATAS

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries with a high risk of disasters, including floods, forest fires, and extreme weather, especially in Central Kalimantan. Lack of disaster preparedness among students may increase the risk of panic, injury, and inappropriate response during emergency situations at school. Therefore, disaster nursing education is important to improve students’ preparedness and response in facing disasters. This community service activity aimed to increase disaster preparedness among senior high school students through disaster nursing education. The activity was conducted in May 2026 at a senior high school in Central Kalimantan involving 30 students as participants. The implementation stages consisted of preparation, health education, disaster simulation, and evaluation. Educational materials included types of disasters, disaster preparedness, evacuation routes, assembly points, self-rescue actions, and simple first aid during emergencies. Evaluation was conducted using a preparedness questionnaire before and after the educational intervention. The results showed an increase in students’ knowledge after the education and simulation activities. Before the intervention, most students were in the moderate and low knowledge categories, while after the intervention the majority of students were in the good knowledge category. Students also demonstrated better understanding of evacuation procedures and self-rescue actions during disaster simulations. Disaster nursing education and simulation can improve students’ preparedness and awareness in facing disasters at school. Continuous disaster preparedness education is needed to support the development of disaster-resilient schools.
