WARM COMPRESS THERAPY IS EFFECTIVE IN GRADUALLY REDUCING POSTOPERATIVE PAIN
INTENSITY IN PATIENTS AFTER SECTIO CAESAREA
Background: Sectio Caesarea (SC) surgery causes tissue disruption in the abdominal wall and uterus, leading to severe postoperative pain. Non-pharmacological therapies such as warm compresses can be utilized to reduce pain intensity through vasodilation and muscle relaxation effects. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of warm compress therapy in reducing postoperative pain intensity after SC surgery in a single case patient. Methods: The research design used a descriptive case study on one post-SC patient on day 1 at Lotim Medical Center Hospital. The intervention consisted of a warm compress using a hot water bag at a temperature of 40OC - 43OC applied to the abdomen around the incision area for 20 minutes, conducted in 1 session per day for 3 consecutive days. Pain measurement used the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. Results: On day 1, the pain scale decreased from 6 (moderate) to 5 (moderate). On day 2, the pain scale decreased from 5 to 3 (mild). On day 3, the pain scale decreased from 3 to 1 (mild). Conclusion: Warm compress therapy is effective in gradually reducing postoperative pain intensity in patients after Sectio Caesarea.
